A rare victory for common sense occurred in West Wales this week when a young local couple won their 3 year fight against planners who threatened to bulldoze their home.
The couple used natural materials to build a wonderful eco home for themselves and their young son on land owned by their family in Pembrokeshire. Their error was in failing to apply for planning permission prior to moving into the hobbit house which cost them £12,000 to build.
Although random building without planning permission should certainly not be encouraged anywhere, the fact that they had the initiative to build a beautiful green home on their own land where it is totally hidden from view should be lauded and surely this is the ideal way to encourage local youngsters, who cannot afford to buy homes locally, to stay in the community. I suggest that Council planners use this as a blueprint to allow other young local people to build similar eco houses on land belonging to them or their families, such as family farms, with the proviso that the houses are screened from view and, of course, the Planners are consulted before building begins.
If you are thinking of moving to Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion or Gower, or buying a holiday home here, we at West Wales Property Finders would be delighted to help you find your dream home. Over 90% of the properties we find for our clients never hit the open market, ensuring they get the cream of the crop. We also save time, money and stress by previewing houses on our clients’ behalf before providing them with a shortlist of suitable ones with warts and all reports and photographs on each. We then accompany our clients to view the properties and, once they have decided on one they wish to purchase, carry out all the negotiations on their behalf and micro-manage the transaction through to exchange. We can also recommend solicitors, surveyors, tradesmen, etc. and give access to our invaluable little black book of useful contacts.
