A Grade II listed fort, which was the centre of numerous UFO sightings, is up for sale.
The Fort, previously a hotel owned and run for many years by a lovely Spanish family, sits perched on the headland between Little Haven and Broadhaven in Pembrokeshire and includes over 4.5 acres and even it’s own beach, Settlands Bay.
Sitting in the middle of what has come to be known as “The Broadhaven Triangle”, the current owner’s mother was, in 1977, one of the first of many to claim to have seen a spacecraft land and two aliens emerge. According to her daughter, Rosa was woken in the early morning by a buzzing sound. Thinking she had left the gas boiler on she rushed downstairs and realised the noise was coming from outside. She looked out and saw, about 100 foot away, an oval spacecraft land slowly and two figures emerge who she described as reminiscent of men but with exceptionally long arms and legs. They were wearing silver suits with helmets on their heads. By the time she had alerted her husband the craft had vanished, leaving behind a small crater which is still in evidence today. There were also scorch marks on the slate roof tiles. However, sceptical you may be, I had the privilege of hearing the story first hand from Rosa many years ago and all I can say was there is no doubt in her mind as to what she saw.
14 pupils from Broad Haven primary school also claimed to have see the UFO landing in the area and, when separated and asked to draw what they had seen, they all produced very similar sketches.
A farmer’s wife at St Brides Bay claimed to have heard scratching at her window and saw two creatures looking in; another farmer claimed his herd of milking cows had vanished from the collecting yard to appear almost simultaneously in a field some distance away. Two smartly dressed men were said to have been seen by a number of people wearing black suits with slicked back hair and driving a futuristic style car and these called at the Fort asking to speak to Rosa but, by the time she had been fetched they had disappeared. One farmer claimed to have seen the strange car in the middle of a field that has no vehicle access. Later that year, numerous sightings of a static shape in the sky over Broadhaven with pulsating orange lights were reported; including reports from policemen, RAF personal and other highly respected local residents.
The sightings were so numerous that the Ministry of Defence’s UFO Project asked the RAF police to conduct a secret investigation into the mysterious events whilst, at the same time, telling Parliament, the media and the public that they were of no significance.
The Fort is a Victorian house built in the neo-Gothic style and has castellated walls above the bedroom wing and the converted stables tower. The hotel part of the property has a lounge bar, restaurant, residents’ lounge, commercial kitchen, owners’ accommodation and 14 guest bedrooms. It is an ideal setting for a boutique hotel or, indeed, renovated as a superb large family home.
