Pupils, staff and governors at Ysgol y Preseli, a Welsh medium secondary school in Crymych, Pembrokeshire, are delighted after the school received good and excellent results in a recent Estyn inspection, as well as being placed in the green category – the top colour band – in this year’s Welsh Government National Categorisation System.
Estyn’s report rated Ysgol y Preseli’s current performance and the prospects for improvement as good while the well-being of pupils, the learning experiences and the learning environment were categorised as excellent.
Estyn noted the pupils’ high attendance rates, excellent behaviour and “passionate pride” in their school and community.
“The school is a caring and inclusive community that operates conscientiously for the benefit of all pupils,” said the report.
In praising the learning experiences offered by the school the inspectors stated:“The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum that responds to national needs and the needs of the individual”.
They said particularly notable features were the rich opportunities for pupils to develop literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum afforded by purposeful planning.
The “creative and stimulating” opportunities for pupils to develop wider skills through the Welsh Bacc were also noted.
