Pembrokeshire Council is to lead the way in the UK and ban smoking on all Pembrokeshire’s glorious beaches. Pembrokeshire has more Blue Flag beaches than anywhere else in Britain.
Barafundle Bay, owned by the National Trust as part of the Stackpole Estate and holder of many titles such as “Best Place in Britain to have a Picnic” and named one of the top ten beaches in the World, will be the first to have no smoking signs erected. The ban will then be extended to all beaches within the Pembrokeshire National Park. The ban will, however, be self-policing with beach users encouraged to obey the signs rather than having wardens enforcing it.
Pembrokeshire is following the lead of countries such as Australia, Italy and America where smoking on beaches is forbidden.
