After a year’s absence, Pembrokeshire Fish Week is to return in 2016. This year’s event will run from Saturday, 25th June to Sunday, 3rd July and is something not to be missed.
Established in 2000, the county-wide festival comprises over 200 events and is attended by some 30,000 people each year. It is estimated to contribute around £2.7 million to the local economy.
In 2015 the Council withdrew from the event late in the day leaving Milford Haven Port Authority to step into the breach with a scaled down open day in Milford in its place. The Port Authority will replicate this very successful open day in 2016 with the Council returning to run the county-wide event throughout the week.
Listed as the Number 1 Food Festival by the Independent, the Pembrokeshire Fish Week Festival is a celebration of fresh local fish, an iconic Welsh coastline and a captivating fishing heritage.
The exact itinerary for 2016 has yet to be announced but the festival covers a huge breadth of events, from cooking demos to family days out encompassing snorkel safaris, pond-dipping, surfing lessons, coastal foraging, learn-to-fish events, seashore picnics, and much more. Restaurants throughout the county will be holding tastings and offering sustainably produced fish and seafood themed menus as well as cookery and filleting classes, workshops and tutored tastings.
The festival is well-known for its annual cookery Masterclass where celebrity chefs transform their own line-caught haul into delicious dishes.
