“Somewhere that’s vibrant at weekends may be lifeless during the week. Also, check out what it is like in the evening. You don’t want to find your quiet street is the cut-through for those falling out of a noisy pub, or on their way back from a football match.”
Join online social groups
Most towns and villages have Facebook groups, which you should join not only to help with any questions you may have, but so that you can judge whether the residents are friendly or not, especially about people moving into the area.
Chat to locals
“Have a coffee in one of the local cafés and watch the world go by to see what sort of people come in,” Peett says. “It’s also useful to go into the shops on the high street and chat to the shopkeepers — they are a mine of information about the area.”…
Walk the residential streets
When you are viewing houses, look at the front gardens. “If they are well maintained the residents could well be friendly,” Peett says. “And, if you like tranquillity, avoid moving to a house with a trampoline or slides in the garden next door as these will be used by noisy children after school and at weekends.” She also believes that the calibre of cars parked on a street can give you an insight into the type of people who live there….
