Returning retirees re boosting the number of clients of Carol Peett, an agent at West Wales Property Finders http://www.westwalespropertyfinders.co.uk. She is currently busy searching for properties for a burgeoning group of older house-hunters returning from France, Italy and Spain.
“This trend began immediately after the referendum”, explains Peett, who finds most returning retirees fear difficulties accessing pensions and free healthcare as the reality of Brexit becomes apparent.
Many of Peett’s clients moved abroad between five and ten years ago, in pursuit of warmer weather. “After the referendum they decided to move back, partly due to perceived difficulties living there post Brexit but also, in many cases, because they think the UK will be a nicer place to live once Brexit takes place”. “Returnees typically can’t afford to move back to the South East so West Wales – with its low crime levels, community spirit, Gulf Stream weather and affordability – makes it a good choice”, she says. “It also closely replicates the old fashioned country lifestyle many had chosen in places like rural France”.
